UCI Law - Call for Moot Court Judges 2025-2026

The UCI 2025-2026 Moot Court competition features 63 student advocates who will tackle a compelling constitutional question in the fictional case of Whitaker v. Lancaster City Bureau of Police: whether the continued retention of personal property must be reasonable under the Fourth Amendment when the investigation justifying the initial seizure has been closed and no charges have been filed.

Competition Schedule (Tentative)

Preliminary Round I: January 26 - February 5 (Virtual via Zoom)
Preliminary Round II:  February 9 - 26 (In-person at UCI Law)
Top 16 Elimination Round: March 16 - 29 (In-person at UCI Law)
Quarterfinal Round: March 23 - 26 (In-person at UCI Law)
Semifinals: March 30 - April 2 (In-person at UCI Law)

Can't make it to Orange County? No problem! Preliminary Round I is conducted entirely via Zoom, making it easy for judges from anywhere to participate. Whether you're across the country or just prefer the convenience of virtual judging, we'd be thrilled to have you join us remotely.

All in-person rounds include complimentary meals and parking!

Hearings will take place Monday through Thursday. The two preliminary rounds and the top 16 elimination rounds will begin at 6:30 pm and end at 9:30 pm. The quarterfinals and semifinals will begin at 6:30 pm and end at 8:30 pm.

Prior to oral arguments, your dedicated clerks on the Moot Court Board will provide you with a comprehensive bench memorandum that includes relevant legal authorities and suggested questions tailored to challenge and engage the competitors.
